Gambling Disorder Treatment Webinar Series
Easy, Convenient Ways to Earn Gambling Disorder CE Credits on YOUR time
At a time when legalized gambling is increasing globally, we are also seeing new forms of gambling through online and virtual platforms. As clinicians and therapists, we need to stay current with research and treatment interventions.
We have developed several 2-hour on-demand webinars on problem and disordered gambling treatment for clinicians. Learn or review current evidence-based theories, interventions as well as practical strategies for your clinical practice. These webinars are specifically designed for clinicians on the front line of disordered gambling. All webinars are pre-recorded for you to consume at your own convenience.
Biopsychosocial Features in Gambling
Gambling is a multifaceted behavior that is influenced across biological, psychological, and sociological factors. Research on at-risk and problem gambling has continued to show empirical differences between gamblers and non-gamblers across neurobiological, psychological, and sociocultural factors. While the increase in empirical evidence is encouraging, little is currently known about the extent to which clinicians can identify and/or use biological/neurological, psychological, and sociocultural factors within their own practice. Therefore, the general theme of the webinar will review biopsychosocial aspects related to at-risk and problem gambling and how clinicians can use this information in clinical practice.
The Legal System and Gambling
This webinar explores the various ways in which clinicians may be involved in the legal system related to gambling disorders. For many, it’s not “if” but “when” they will interact with attorneys, probation/parole, and court-ordered treatment requests. This webinar reviews how to interact, educate, and provide written documentation to judges, attorneys, and the legal system on behalf of individuals with gambling disorders.
Harm Reduction and Gambling
This webinar introduces clinical approaches to harm reduction across the continuum, from responsible gambling to self-exclusion programs. Clinicians will learn how to apply the 10 Rules of Responsible Gambling as a way to create harm reduction plans for their clients. Clinicians also learn when abstinence is the treatment goal and how to utilize various self-exclusion programs to help their clients close all the “doors” to access to gambling. Special guest appearances from Jack and Melissa from Gamban®, who will walk attendee’s through how to use their application to help clients abstain from access to anything gambling related online.
Finances in Clinical Practice
This webinar focuses on financial planning and related aspects so important when it comes to treatment for problem gamblers. The webinar will focus on how to incorporate various financial interventions, such as budgets and financial restitution plans, involving families into financial interventions, and using technology to make things easy for clients and their families. We will also highlight how to use basic tools such as excel spreadsheets to develop and monitor financial budgets and financial restitution plans. Clinicians also learn how to begin to teach ‘financial literacy’ and the meaning of money to their clients with gambling disorders.
Self-Help in Clinical Practice
This webinar explores the many ways self-help programs can help clients with gambling disorders. We discuss the various types of self-help options, not just 12-Step, that can assist our clients in their recovery from gambling. We explore what it means to be a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) and how clinicians can develop a partnership in a way that further supports their clients in recovery. We explore new ways to use technology to meet the younger generations that may not seek support in the traditional ways. Join us with a special guest, Jeff Wasserman, ICGC-I, CPRS for this webinar.

“Whether working with Jody and Alyssa as educators, counselors, researchers, advocates or friends, every single opportunity has been an absolute gift. What they bring to the field of problem gambling is immeasurable – they are both incredible assets, and have only just begun to show us what they can offer.”
“Jody is a phenomenal public speaker and instructor. She creates a fun learning experience and is warm and personable. Jody is the reason why I pursued certification to become a gambling counselor myself.”
“Thank you so much for the insightful and informational webinars you instructed for telehealth. As a human services consultant and assisting a local psychiatrist set up his telehealth platform and policy and procedures, the information was invaluable that you presented. As having oversight of therapists who are using telehealth for the first time, your ideas and suggestions for engaging clients in a new medium of treatment was spot on for supervising them. I am having the therapists listen to the webinar themselves as there was too much info to take notes. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and commentary. ”
“Just attended your webinar. You are an amazing teacher! Always always learn new things and motivates me to do more. Keep doing what you are doing!”

Information on Continuing Education Credits
This Gambling Disorder Treatment Webinar program is offered for 2 hours (per webinar) of social work continuing education through co-sponsorship of the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Social Work, a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)-accredited school and, therefore, a PA pre-approved provider of social work continuing education. These credit hours satisfy requirements for LSW/LCSW, LPC and LMFT biennial license renewal in Pennsylvania. We are also approved for social work continuing education by the State of New York
Although continuing education provided by CSWE-accredited institutions are accepted by most U.S. state licensing boards, our School of Social Work cannot assure that your state will accept these CE hours. The final authority for approving any continuing education activity rests with the social work board of the state in which you are licensed. Even states that accept CSWE approval may have exceptions in terms of courses they will accept. Co-sponsorship program attendees are responsible for checking with and ensuring that CE sessions they attend through us are eligible for credit with their state’s licensing board.
