Tara Smith is a Licensed Social Worker who obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Sociology, and Theology from Duquesne University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. While studying at the University of Pittsburgh, Tara was the first student in the program’s history to complete two fellowships simultaneously in addiction and integrated healthcare as well as the Social Work program’s mental health certificate.
Tara has 8 years of experience working with clients struggling with various categories of addiction including substance use disorders, alcohol use disorder, and gambling addiction as well as various mental health diagnoses. During her time working in both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation centers, Tara gained a significant amount of experience in working with survivors of trauma. Tara utilizes a variety of treatment methods with a belief that clients and therapists should work together to develop a treatment plan as unique as the individual or couple seeking care.
Tara is also dedicated to the support and advocacy of the LGBTQ+ Community. Tara has participated in continuing education courses to better understand the strengths and struggles of this important community and has completed a comprehensive evaluation of one of the leading behavioral health insurance provider’s cultural competency training.
