Mental Health Awareness Month: Conversation Starters

May 13, 2024

It can be hard to know the right thing to say or how to start a conversation when you are concerned that someone in your life may be struggling. Here are a few ideas on how to start a conversation about mental health:

  • “It seems like something’s up, do you want to talk about what’s going on?”

  • “I’ve noticed you’ve been down lately. What’s going on?”

  • “I’m worried about you and would like to know what’s going on so I can help.”

  • “Whenever you’re ready to talk, I am ready to listen.”

  • “I know life can be overwhelming sometimes. So, if you need to talk, I am for you.”
