RECOVERY SERVICES FOR INDIVIDUALS, COUPLES IMPACTED BY ADDICTION
MEN’S RECOVERY GROUP
Evan Dean, LCSW, Director of Recovery, brings over 5 years of clinical experience to the Better Institute as an expert in recovery from substance use, anxiety, and depression. He is a professional musician that loves to work with creative people using the arts in therapy.
In clinical terms, Evan employs a blend of Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Trauma-Informed Care in his work with clients. “One size fits all” is not an expression that Evan is fond of in therapy, and so he will adapt his approach to suit each individual.
Evan has helped many clients take practical action in their recovery. He has helped clients see the dissonance between their stated goals and their actual decisions. And, because he values emotional expression so highly, he has helped clients to see, experience, and express their emotional complexity. One could sum up Evan’s approach to therapy as unconditional acceptance paired with no-nonsense, practical behavioral change. Whether a client is working for recovery, learning to cope with anxiety, depression, or any other mental health condition, Evan works very hard to create a safe space for the work of change to happen.
Individual Therapy– Evan employs a blend of Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Trauma-Informed Care in his work with clients. One can sum up his style thus: unconditional acceptance paired with no-nonsense, practical behavioral change.
Men’s Recovery Group- Evan facilitates this process group for men in recovery from substance use and process addictions to aid clients in their continued efforts to understand themselves and find support from men in recovery. The group helps clients to find optimism that change is possible, helps to identify choices and facilitate members taking responsibility for them, and clarifies ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving in a recovery context.
Evan is a devoted meditator, appreciator of a good joke, lover of animals, and a horrible cook. His favorite bands are Marcus King Band, Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Allman Brothers Band, John Scofield, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone… and too many others to name.
