April is a great time to focus on mindfulness, as spring brings new beginnings and a sense of renewal. Mindfulness is the practice of purposely bringing one’s attention to the present moment.
Here are 3 mindfulness activities that you can try out.
- Body Scan Meditation: The body scan is a mindfulness meditation that involves paying attention to different parts of your body, from your toes all the way up to the crown of your head. We recommend the Insight Timer app. Try out one of the body scan meditations found in this app. The app is free but does include some paid courses.
- Mindful Eating: Mindful eating involves paying attention to the sensory experience of eating, including the taste, texture, and smell of the food. Choose a meal or snack and eat it mindfully, savoring each bite and noticing any thoughts or feelings that arise.
- Gratitude Practice: Gratitude can be a powerful tool for cultivating mindfulness and promoting positive emotions. Start a gratitude practice by writing down three things you’re grateful for each day, or by taking a few moments each evening to reflect on the positive moments of your day.
